100% Secure Online Shopping
Verified
by Visa gives you added online security.
Help protect your existing Visa card with a password you create, giving
you reassurance that only you can use your Visa card online.
Simply activate your card and create your
personal password. You'll get the added confidence that your Visa card
is safe when you shop online.
It's
quick and easy.
You may activate now by entering your card number over Visa's secure
server. If your card issuer is participating in Verified by Visa (most
issuers are) you'll complete a brief activation process. You'll verify
your identity, create your Verified by Visa password and you're done.
To get started, click the "Activate Now"
button at the bottom of this page. If you'd prefer to activate later,
here's how it works during an online purchase:

Your
card is automatically recognized.
Once your card is activated, your card number will be recognized
whenever you purchase at onSale.com or at other participating online
stores. You'll enter your password in the Verified by Visa window, your
identity will be verified, and the transaction will be completed. In
stores that are not yet participating in Verified by Visa, your Visa
card will continue to work as usual.

Card and Order Data |
The
checkout and
confirmation areas of iPelagos.com are secured using SSL
encryption. This ensures that your credit card number and personal
information are never sent over the internet unencrypted. Your credit
card information is immediately stored in its encrypted form in the
data center. Once it is encrypted, no one except the credit card
authorization company can decrypt it. Your credit card number is never
displayed on our site. Only the last four digits will ever be shown.
Also, your personal information, such as your address, e-mail and
billing information, are stored in a secure server within the data
center. Only those with proper authorization can view this data. We
guarantee it.
At iPelagos.com, we use VeriSign which is recognized as one of
the worldwide leaders in secure e-commerce payment technologies and
services.
In the following section, we've
tried
to answer common questions and concerns as honestly as possible.
|
|
| How
do I know if a website is secure? |
In
order to be accurate, we're going to get a bit detailed here. When
buying something on the Internet, there are three things to be sure of:
- Data you send is strongly
encrypted.
- The site you're doing
business with
is the site you think it is.
- The site you're doing
business with
processes your credit card and address information in a safe and
responsible manner.
Points 1 and 2 are taken care of
by
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer), the industry standard security protocol
that iPelagos.com uses to communicate with secure browsers like
Safari and Internet Explorer. When communicating with a secure server
like ours, these browsers encrypt the information you send in a way
that is extremely difficult for anyone else to decode. (You don't have
to know whether your browser supports secure transactions
if it doesn't, you won't be able to complete the checkout process.)
Many security experts say the
most
important thing is what happens once the merchant receives your order.
At iPelagos Electronics, we use VeriSign, the leading provider of electronic
commerce solutions, to keep things on our end as safe as possible.
Using VeriSign does not give us the ability to keep a copy of your
credit card number on file. While this is a minor inconvenience whether ordering on the Internet or by phone, you have to
give us the number every time you order we believe it's the
safest and most honest way to do business.
|
|
| Which
pages of the iPelagos site are secure? |
| Most
of the activity on our site involves the viewing of materials we've
prepared and made accessible to everyone, so there's no need for these
pages to be "secure". With a product page, for example, no security
risk exists because there is no "information" being exchanged.
The portion of the site we've
made
secure is, not surprisingly, the checkout area. This is where you
actually purchase the items you've put into your Shopping Cart. The
"Billing & Shipping Information" page and all checkout pages
after that are in a secure environment.
